Olimann, the mind behind the NAUREA project has an all-inclusive artistic brain – from electro, techno and house, to post-industrial rock, he says that anything is possible within the framework of his creativity. An architect, graphic designer, writer, and ex-guitarist in a number of bands since 1991, Olimann now usually works alone in his small studio, manufacturing all the essentials that make up the chaotic NAUREA package, from the music to the graphics. Releasing its debut production in 2012, the project has just dropped its latest 10 track album, entitled “New Zombie Generation”. True to his unorthodox ideas in all avenues of his art, the album is full of social observation and shock but with a witty slant.
From the album comes the lead single, “Sugar Sun”, filled with all the manic grit NAUREA can manage, bringing all the familiarity his fans will yearn for, and the band sounds great: delivering sludgy, energetic industrial rock. But it’s one of those records that also deliver more depth to the experience than you were expecting. More real music than just the inescapable feeling that experimentation was the focal point here rather than actual structure and focus. In other words if you were expecting only gimmicky visuals backed by a whole lot of chaotic noise, think again.
Olimann, aka NAUREA, has a thinking mind, which means no incoherent mesh of random ideas. On the album he takes a hard critical look at our modern, wired up and networking society, leaving no stone unturned. Even the song titles give you an idea of where his train of thought is headed – “Fast Food Is The New Religion” and “Game Addicted”, being just two shiny examples. “Sugar Sun” however, will audibly assault you relentlessly, and it’s one of the catchiest songs on the album I still think. ‘Abrasive, raw, yet complex and catchy’, is not a mix of words that ever find themselves grouped together nicely, yet in this case they find themselves quite uncomfortably comfortable in describing the deranged organized frenzy delivered via “Sugar Sun”.
Of course more flipped out hysteria can be gained from watching the supporting video clip of the song. In a way, one could almost say that NAUREA writes very visual songs, because his sonic madness always begs to be seen. And of course he obliges with a whole series of videos available for viewing on his YouTube channel. Pure freaky brilliant genius, NAUREA is a mix of Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie and Static-X. If you are treading the darker side of industrial with an abstract left-field flair, stop here for some influence!
